BYRD

Born in Oklahoma and raised in Broward County, Florida, Richard “Byrd” Wilson is an award-winning screenwriter, director, and poet. Byrd found his artistic voice through poetry and has used the art form to become a MULTIDISCIPLINARY creative powerhouse . 

Byrd’s love of writing and creating has taken many forms over the years, eventually leading him to screenwriting, where his cleverness and unique worldview shine through. He also uses his story and skill set to inspire creatives as a teaching artist and keynote speaker. He has led Writing Development Intensives for students at universities around the country. He also has blended his poetry workshops into informative introductions to Film and Screenwriting for organizations such as Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society and The Southern Fired Poetry Slam.

Richard worked as a Writer and Story Editor on the OWN Network series David Makes Man, a Miami-set drama created by Academy Award-winner Tarell McCraney and executive-produced by Oprah and Michael B. Jordan. Since then, he has also been a Writer and Consulting Producer for Tyler Perry’s Sistas (Seasons 7-9).

He has developed scripts, pitches, and concepts with Macro Studios, Warner Bros. Studios, Will Packer, Malcolm D. Lee, Hebru Brantley, and many others.

When not writing he is creating, directing, and producing original concepts with his team, such as the award-winning proof-of-concept short film “The Newlyweds”.

Byrd still performs as a spoken-word artist around the country and has also written for the Grammy-nominated instrumentalist Black Violin, continuing his legacy of bringing his passion, gifts, and outlook to whatever medium he approaches and excelling in it.
